Savour your culture after hours at Auckland Museum as part of their new LATE at Auckland Museum series, held on the first Thursday of every month. The series will feature discussion on contemporary themes, with bands, DJs and artists performing in the Museum's galleries.
LATE at Auckland Museum is the brainchild of Auckland Museum Director Dr Vitali, who was instrumental in developing the hugely successful First Fridays at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, an ongoing series which attracts a diverse cross section of Los Angelinos.Says Dr Vitali, "Modern museums must function as crossroads where people can make real connections; not just through collections, but with innovative exhibits and events such as LATE at Auckland Museum."
Finlay Macdonald, host of Talk Talk, is working with the Museum and guests to explore this challenge within such contexts as Waitangi Day, Pasifika, local fashion and 'tribes' of the Auckland region.
Alongside debate on contemporary themes, bands, DJs and artists will perform in the Museum's atrium and galleries. A cash bar and food are also available.
The first LATE, on Thursday 5 February, takes its inspiration from Waitangi Day to celebrate our identity beyond conventional notions of the Maori-Pakeha dynamic, and features live performances from Moana & the Tribe, Little Bushman and DJ Submariner.
Says Dr. Vitali, "On the first Thursday of every month we invite you to join us to indulge in Auckland's best enlightenment, music, art, food and drink."
Tickets cost $15 and can be purchases on the door, online at www.lateatthemuseum.com or by phoning 09 306 7048.
