Last weekend the new contemporary Maori installation and painting in the whare, Tane Whai Ora at Tapu te Ranga Marae in Island Bay was opened. Artist Vanessa Patea, (nga Puhi, ngati Maniapoto) decorated the whare with the imagery and atmosphere of South Island Maori Rock Art. Specially from central Canterbury Limestone caves and cliffs. The project was funded by Te Waka Toi of CreativeNZ. The marae also houses contemporary art from N.Z artists, Fred Graham, John Walsh, Robyn Kahukiwa, Diana Prince and Darcy Nicolas.
