This video is made with the support of NZ on Air Public Interest Journalism Fund.
Kalisolaite ‘Uhila strives to be the voice for the voiceless.
Tongan born, he considers it his responsibility to speak up and represent the Pacifica community and those who don’t get the spotlight they deserve.
Whether its the stories of his ancestors or those that relate to issues he feels a personal connection with in today’s society, ‘Uhila is willing to go to extremes.
A creative force, he uses his body as a platform - skilled in the medium of performance art. “My tools are my body - and the story behind it.”
‘Uhila explains performance art can be viewed live or through video - and has been prepared to tattoo his body, burying himself up to his neck or even live on the streets to better tell his stories.
So how do you make a living as a performance artist? ‘Uhila explains in this video.
