The Waitakere Orchestra is pleased to announce their next concert, on Saturday 25th February, at 8.00pm, at the Green Bay High School Performing Arts Centre. Musical Director Brigid Ursula Bisley will conduct the programme, featuring young Melbourne pianist Stefan Cassomenos in Mozart Piano Concerto No. 25 in C Major K503 alongside Beethoven Symphony No. 2, and “Little Suite for Strings” by Carl Nielsen.

The concert is made possible due to ongoing support from the ASB Trust and Creative Communities, and it is hoped that increased interest and funding will be able to be generated. “There is plenty of support out for this orchestra there”, says Brigid Bisley, “both in the local community and the music community; and we know that there are key people who recognize its value and uniqueness, within the context of West Auckland and the regional music scene.

Stefan will also be giving a solo piano recital at Green Bay High, on Sunday February 26th at 4pm, in an exciting programme including works by Liszt, Chopin, Prokofiev, Debussy, Beethoven, Messaien and John Adams.

Performing internationally since the age of 10, Stefan Cassomenos has appeared as a soloist throughout Europe and Asia, and now gives regular solo recitals and concerto performances with orchestras throughout Australia. Stefan has appeared as a soloist in St Petersburg, Tallinn, Warsaw, Krakow, Athens, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam, London, Bangkok, and Tokyo. His 2007 London debut was described, in a Musical Musical Opinion: John Amis, as ‘alive, passionate, and dramatic … as if the pianist’s life depended on it. This was a prodigious London debut by a formidable talent.’ He regularly performs concertos with orchestras, which have included the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic Melbourne, and several other youth and community orchestras. Stefan is generously supported by Kawai Australia, Music Theatre Australia, and the Youth Music Foundation of Australia. You can see some of Stefan’s work on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfYS07-BIWA. Whilst in New Zealand, Stefan will also be giving masterclasses and an in-store recital at KBB Music in Auckland. Check the website - www.kbbmusic.co.nz

The Waitakere Orchestra concert begins at 8.00pm. Bookings are available from iTicket (www.iticket.co.nz or phone 361 1000) and door sales from 7.00pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
