Having spent a lot of time in South East Asia, Caren Wilton was particularly shocked by the devastation wreaked by the recent tsunami. "I know a lot of writers, and I've been to a lot of readings and done readings myself," says Wilton. "I thought I could put together a programme of readings to raise funds for the tsunami relief effort."

Some of New Zealand's most celebrated writers will gather at Wellington's Downstage Theatre on February 11 for the fundraising event."People were very keen to be involved, and everyone said yes straight away - they really wanted to do something. I found their responses very heartwarming."
The event will feature a diverse line-up of kiwi talent, including literary giants Bill Manhire and Vincent O'Sullivan, award winning writer and performer Jo Randerson and musician/poet Hinemoana Baker. Kim Hill will be acting as MC for the evening and James Illingworth will set the scene with some sophisticated jazz piano.
Wilton sees the event as a fantastic opportunity to raise money for the victims of the tsunami, whilst at the same time offering attendees a unique literary experience.
"It's actually quite a rare opportunity to see so many top writers on the one bill - should be a great night," she says.
The Downstage Theatre has donated the use of the venue for the evening, which means that all the proceeds will go directly to the tsunami victims, via the New Zealand Red Cross. Tickets are $25 and can be obtained at the door on the night.
