Internationally renowned fashion designer Zandra Rhodes – supported on her trip to NZ by the British Council NZ -- says something pretty special is happening at the iD Fashion Show in Dunedin.
She believes its fashion is of such a standard that the world should sit up and take note – high praise from a woman who has designed for Princess Di, Freddie Mercury and hundreds of Hollywood stars.
“It’s like the birth of a fashion scene and I'm at the beginning, seeing it happen,” Ms Rhodes says – and she knows the birth of a scene when she sees one; she helped launch London onto the fashion world stage.
These days the high priestess is enjoying a bit of a renaissance – with the likes of Kelly Osbourne, Kate Moss and Ashley Olsen wearing her vintage.
Ms Rhodes is first and foremost a textile designer – she lets the print dictate the design.
New Zealand's landscape is already an inspiration – it's a long way for the designer to come – but she genuinely thinks we have something special.
