Share your skills and help New Dawn FM to produce quality audio-visual programming that supports open and informed discussion of political and social issues in Bougainville.

New Dawn FM was created to be the voice of a new, autonomous and peaceful Bougainville. The station sees their role as crucial in educating and informing people about issues concerning economic development, rehabilitation, peace and democracy building. Furthermore, New Dawn is striving to create a forum for all people to have a voice in the conversation about the referendum and independence. As the Bougianville referedum on independence approaches New Dawn is looking for the support of a Communications Adviser to provide training and mentoring to staff in the audio-visual production process including, design, direction, scripting and editing.

Alongside the principles and techniques for audio visual production the volunteer will also provide training to staff in equipment maintenance and the set-up of new equipment to optimise results. The successful candidate will also assess existing staff capacity, audio-visual equipment and facilities before making recommendations for improvements, procurement and recruitment to address any identified gaps. This dual focus will help build the capacity of New Dawn staff to produce quality programming and support the establishment a pilot audio-visual news, documentary and drama production unit.

VSA is looking for a volunteer who has:

  • Experience in the audio visual sector, especially in production and visual story telling
  • Sound knowledge of basic video production including camera work, editing and production workflows
  • Sound knowledge of the maintenance of audio visual hardware and software
  • Ability to supervise production services
  • Experience providing on-the-job training and mentoring

This is a 1-year assignment based in Buka, Bougainville.

We cover living allowances, accommodation and utilities. Travel, visas, insurance and medical costs are organised and funded by VSA.
