Here's a fantastic opportunity to get your artwork up on the walls in the Mayoral Office at Western Bay of Plenty District Council.

The Mayor himself, Garry Webber, is looking for an inspirational artwork that represents the values of the District and that he can call his own after his tenure ends.

The Brief:

The general meaning of this artwork should revolve around the concept of working together. The Western Bay of Plenty District Council has a wide catchment that incorporates an incredibly diverse range of people, cultures, beliefs and aspirations. Each of these groups has a unique and special contribution to make to the overall scheme of things; contributions that help to enrich, create awareness and achieve the goals that we all aspire to - individually as well as collectively.

The Mayor would also like the work to relate to the culture and history of the area. There are three Iwi in the Western Bay of Plenty District: Ngati Ranginui of the Takitimu waka, Ngaiterangi of the Mataatua waka and Ngati Pukenga also descendants of the Mataatua waka. The District also takes in the Te Puke area, the home of a section of the Te Arawa Iwi who are descendants of the Te Arawa waka.

The Mayor has dedicated a wall in his office to feature the chosen work so he is looking for a wall-based piece roughly the size of one square metre.

The Budget:

The Mayor has allocated $1,500 from his own personal funds to pay for the chosen piece.

How to submit a proposal:

Creative Bay of Plenty is helping the Mayor in this process. At this stage we are calling for submissions from interested artists. You don't need to live locally to submit a proposal, but the artwork must incorporate above brief. You must be able to explain how your submission relates to the Western Bay of Plenty District, its people, cultures, beliefs and aspirations.

If you are interested to submit a proposal please send us the following:

1/ A visual representation of your idea

2/ One paragraph explaining how your submission incorporates the brief

3/ Your CV on one-page
