Employer: Jolt Charitable Trust

Jolt has 20 years experience working with the disability community in Ōtautahi and has developed a broadranging programme including;

  • Weekly classes involving 200 participants of all ages
  • New Zealand’s first ongoing dance teacher training for people with intellectual disabilities
  • Primary School and Retirement Home workshops led by dancers with disabilities 
  • Interactive performances developed specifically for audiences with disabilities
  • Residency programmes that bring together mainstream students and students with disabilities
  • Collaborations with professional arts organisations such as the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Music New Zealand

Reporting to the General Manager, this is a new role offered as a fixed term employee contract, based on 10 hours per week, for three years​

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Engage with Pasifika peoples with intellectual disabilities and their families to support individual needs and encourage participation in Jolt classes
  • Build relationships with Pasifika community organisations and health providers
  • Initiate engagement with Pasifika families to grow an awareness of Jolt’s programmes
  • Collect and evaluate data that identifies current awareness of Jolt’s programmes, barriers to participation and the support needed to alleviate barriers
  • Co-ordinate workshops/performances in Pasifika communities and at Pasifika events
  • Take a lead role in increasing the awareness of Pasifika cultural traditions across the Jolt organisation
  • Support the development of resources to connect with Pasifika peoples
