Reporting to the General Director, the Director Finance & Administration is a member of the Senior Leadership Team specifically responsible for managing all financial, human resource, IT and risk management functions of New Zealand Opera, ensuring the Company complies with New Zealand Law, accounting standards, and administers best practice and procedures to achieve the Company’s Purpose, Vision, Values and Goals.

We are looking for a candidate with experience in the following areas:

  • At least five years accounting experience in a senior finance role, preferably in a cultural or not-for-profit organisation, with a relevant qualification in accounting
  • Well-developed accounting, budgeting, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven skills in detailed data analysis, report writing and presentation
  • Proven ability to develop efficient and effective systems and processes
  • Willingness to be flexible, adaptable, and can contribute at a strategic level
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and respond to the needs of internal and external clients
  • Proven ability to work to a very high standard of accuracy and attention to detail in a busy environment
  • An ability to lead and manage HR, IT and risk management functions.
  • Advanced skills in the use of accounting and payroll systems, Microsoft Office 365, as well as the ability to quickly learn new software programmes
  • Ability to deal with confidential information using discretion and judgement
  • A basic understanding and acknowledgement of the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori and te reo Māori is a welcome advantage for the position
  • An appreciation of opera and/or performing arts is also an advantage
