Kei aku nui, kei aku rahi, kei aku rau rangatira ma! Nei rā te mihi kia koutou.

The Atamira Dance Collective Charitable Trust Board is looking for two new trustees who would be keen to help Atamira chart the next phase of its development and champion contemporary Māori dance. We are particularly keen to receive expressions of interest from individuals with previous experience in one or more of the following areas: Governance, business, marketing, finance, people and cultural management, Māori entrepreneurship, and strategic thinking. A knowledge of tikanga, mātauranga Māori and Te Reo would be an advantage.

"Thank you…Atamira for providing a deeply thought-provoking opportunity for stimulating reflection. This is why major companies like this are deservedly supported and funded by our wider NZ community." - Chris Jannides, Theatreview

Atamira Dance Company is Aotearoa’s leading professional Māori contemporary dance company. Atamira creates work that is exciting - it takes risks and pushes boundaries while drawing upon the unique cultural histories and stories that help define who we are. Company choreographers, dancers, and creative partners are among some of the most respected and established contemporary artists in Aotearoa.

While forging innovative new pathways in dance, the company engages research-based collaborative practice and experimentation. It tours nationally and internationally, and offers diverse programmes of performances, workshops, wānanga, classes, and community events. In 2021 Atamira celebrated its 21st birthday with the collectively choreographed work Te Wheke, and in June 2022 premiered KAHA TripleBoost featuring work by established and younger artists integrating Virtual Reality and Te Reo with live performance.

From its beginnings as a collective in Auckland in 2000, and subsequent incorporation as a company managed by a charitable trust in 2007, Atamira’s decision making and creative practice has been rooted in tikanga and mātauranga Māori. Its board has included trustees with creative, legal, academic, business, arts management, and entrepreneurial expertise.

"Over its 21 years Atamira has become a national taonga" - Dr Ian Lochhead, Theatreview
