The Māori Strategy & Partnerships Team at Toi Aotearoa is seeking a kaupapa Māori kaimahi, ideally from the arts sector, who wants to make a substantial and meaningful difference for Ngā Toi Māori?

We work towards the moemoea ‘Ngā Toi Māori is visible everywhere and highly valued as part of New Zealand’s distinct identity, which is admired globally’. This moemoea is informed by the passionate Māori artists, practitioners and advocates voices we heard during our national ngā toi Māori roadshow in 2018.

Our mahi is important in helping to address equitable opportunities and outcomes for Māori artists and practitioners.  As an organisation, we’re advancing strategies, policies and plans to support and develop the ngā toi Māori sector and are committed to the preservation of customary and contemporary Māori arts.  This is done through our investment, advocacy, international initiatives and special opportunities. 

 

It’s an exciting time as our organisation and governing board, including our statutory Komiti Māori, responds to a wero by the late Moana Jackson in 2018 and considers how we give recognition of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, through our work and across the arts sector.

 

Ko Tā mātou mahi – The role

 

The Manager, Māori Strategy and Partnership is responsible for driving the delivering of our Te Hā o Ngā Toi Māori Arts Strategy, and monitoring and reporting its outcomes within a policy frame.  This varied role is able to influence Creative New Zealand’s impact on Ngā Toi Māori through working with others (partnerships and relationships e.g. Māori arts organisations and collectives, with hapu-Iwi, cultural agencies, central and local government), projects, programmes, advocacy, international work and by exploring special opportunities.  

 

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu – What you will bring

 

  • A strong understanding of strategy and operationalising it
  • Confidence in te reo Māori with the ability to incorporate mātauranga me tikanga Māori into your mahi and across the organisation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including experience in board reporting
  • Project management and developing efficient systems and processes
  • Commercial acumen and experience managing budgets
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Experience in managing legal and/ or contractual documents
  • Knowledge of the machinery of Government
  • Leadership through the value of manaakitanga to those we work with and serve
  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and guidance for Creative New Zealand’s work.
