Māpura Studios is a charitable trust and a creative space working with diverse and disadvantaged people.

Creative spaces are organisations and places where people who experience barriers to participation can make art, or participate in artistic activities such as theatre, dance, circus, music, film, and creative writing. Barriers to participation include learning or physical disability, neurological conditions, mental ill health, age-related vulnerability (senior citizens or vulnerable youth), cultural isolation or poverty.

We provide space, resources and assistance in ways that will lead to self-expression, empowerment, and self-development through making art or participating in artistic activities.

The role of Studio Coordinator is a key role and not only involves organising the day-to-day activities of our programmes which are run from multiple locations, but also contributes to the creative vision, direction, and content of all our work. The role also strongly supports the Director of Māpura Studios and the strategic vision and values which are fundamental to our operations.

  • The person we are looking for is someone who has a strong belief in the power of creativity to change lives.
  • They will be able to relate to all, build relationships easily, be organised, be a great communicator and able to collaborate with a team of creative tutors and therapists and with the administration team.
  • They will be able to turn their hand to anything from involvement in strategic decisions and creative direction to more mundane tasks.
  •  The role needs an outgoing, vibrant personality with a genuine belief and passion for social equity and the rights of the disabled and disadvantaged.
  •  Experience in tutoring and working with diverse people is an advantage.
  •  Innovation, inspiration, and involvement are key to the success of this role.

Māpura Studios is one of New Zealand’s leading creative spaces with around 35 weekly creative programmes using a range of arts modalities. We work across the Auckland region with a central studio based in Morningside. In addition, we offer on-line creative programmes to disabled people across New Zealand. Currently we have around 350 people participating in various activities each week.

The role will be around 20 hours per week initially, but this may grow over time. It is essential that the person can have a high degree of flexibility around days and times worked. The role is based in Morningside, Auckland but may involve visiting off-site locations on occasions.
