Sistema Aotearoa Trust are seeking a skilled, energetic, and motivated Lead Tutor (Upper Strings) to help lead and deliver a visionary, high-quality music programme, leading to increased aspirations and improved wellbeing of tamariki and whānau.

Sistema Aotearoa’s vision is to unleash the potential of tamariki, whānau and communities through orchestral music-making and our mission is to provide barrier-free, inclusive orchestral music-making for diverse communities in Aotearoa New Zealand. Established in 2011, Sistema Aotearoa continues to make a significant difference amongst the Māori and Pasifika community it serves.

Based in Ōtara, South Auckland, the programme provides tamariki with inspirational opportunities, and in 2022 over 1200 ākonga aged 2 to 18 participated in diverse activities including lively early childhood music sessions, in-school musicianship lessons, instrumental tuition, orchestral rehearsals and concert performances. It is a long-term programme, supporting ākonga from early childhood, through all school stages, and onto tertiary pathways.

Our new Lead Tutor (Upper Strings) will be a high calibre musician with a combination of skills, knowledge, values, resilience, and willingness to learn. Above all, they will be someone who can inspire tamariki, whānau and help build communities through orchestral music making.

The Lead Tutor role will support the vision and direction of the Music Director and Programme Director. This will include providing inspirational and high-quality musical leadership to ākonga and joining the programme leadership team. Areas of focus within the role include: developing pedagogy, teaching, and learning (with an upper strings focus); contributing to evaluation, reporting, and monitoring; and leadership in specific areas, such as planning, training, school liaison, and stakeholder relationships.
