Since its establishment in 1999, Tauranga Arts Festival has become one of New Zealand’s leading festivals. Our next festival is scheduled to begin in October 2023.

Our current artistic director is leaving to expand her family. We therefore seek an outstanding individual who can deliver a festival that continues to expand minds, delight audiences and touch all corners of the community.

The primary purpose of the artistic director role is to lead and manage the artistic vision and delivery of the 2023 Tauranga Arts Festival, in accordance with the strategic direction set by Tauranga Arts Festival Trust board. We envisage this will be a full-time role during the initial contract term of March 2023 - December 2023, though the contract may be extended by mutual agreement for subsequent festivals.

The successful candidate will be keen to build on the tradition and success of Tauranga Arts Festival and also our literary festival Escape. Our new artistic director will have strong arts sector connections, profile and knowledge, and will be tuned in artistically, politically, culturally and community-wise.  Key personal attributes include being positive, passionate, professional, friendly, flexible, ability to solve problems and an ability to take ownership.

If this role is of genuine interest, please send an expression of interest to board member Sue Hoffart (sue@suehoffart.com) who will forward an information pack with a full job description.

Applications will be considered as they are received and will close no later than Tuesday, 31 January 2023
