When Marie Kondo’s ‘Tidying Up’ became available on Netflix late last year, thousands of New Zealanders embraced the minimalist guru’s directive to ‘only keep things that spark joy’.  Op Shops have been flooded with donations, some needing to hire more staff or cut their summer holidays short just to get through all the ‘stuff’.

But what happens if some of those things that no longer ‘spark joy’ are original works, art pieces, photographs, sculptures, paintings?  The owner, nor the artist,  never intended them to end up donated to the Sallies, piled up amongst faulty foot spas and too small crock pots? 

Enter Depot Artspace’s first exhibition of 2019, ‘Pre-Loved Re-Loved’.  The show offers art lovers and collectors a way to on-sell some of their once-loved treasures in a respectful way, also advocating for the Artist Resale Royalties legislation.

Artist Resale Royalties entitles the artist to receive a royalty payment (normally a percentage of the sale price) from the sales of their artwork on the secondary market. Of any works over $1000 sold 5% is to the artist or to their estate.

Depot Artspace produced the initial ARRA publication in 2015 and this has been revised and will be available for purchase during the exhibition.

Visitors to Pre-Loved Re-Loved can expect to see a large variety of art works including painting, ceramics, photography, sculpture and more, available for sale at the Depot directly from their previous owners.
