The Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust has announced that the 2013 Dunedin Fringe Festival will take place from 14-24 March and is now calling for artist to register events in the 2013 programme.

The 2013 Dunedin Fringe Festival will be the 10th fringe festival held in Dunedin since the event was established in 2000. Festival director, Paul Smith, said the Festival continued to grow In reputation and quality.

The 2012 Dunedin Fringe Festival hosted 400 artists presenting 50 events to an audience of 13,000. It is the only Fringe Festival in the South Island and closely follows the dates of the Wellington and Auckland Fringe Festivals.

Artists and creative producers are invited to register an event in the 2013 Festival programme. Festival Director, Paul Smith, said the Dunedin Fringe is an opportunity for artists and creative producers to present innovative and exciting new work to a supportive and enthusiastic audience.

Artists can register their event via the Festival’s website. They can also download an Artist Information Pack detailing how the Festival works and what the Festival provides to artists. The final deadline to register an event is 9 November 2012.

The Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust has received funding of $25,000 from Creative NZ to support the development and presentation of new artistic work for the Festival. Artists wanting to be part of the Festival can apply for funding as part of the registration process.

Mr Smith said the funding was a vote of confidence by Creative NZ in the Festival and would help generate “at least a dozen exciting events that add depth and vitality to our programme.”

Any New Zealand artist could apply for funding which also supported the touring of new work to Dunedin. Artists must apply by 15 October 2012. Eligibility criteria and the application forms are available on the Festival website – www.dunedinfringe.org.nz

The Fringe Festival is holding a public meeting in Dunedin to explain the registration and funding process. Mr Smith said this is a chance for artists and anyone else who is interested to find out how they can get the most out of the Festival.
