The Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust has announced that the 2012 Dunedin Fringe Festival will take place from 15-25 March and is now calling for artist to register events in the 2012 programme and to apply for Festival funding for the development and presentation of new works.

Call for artist participation

There are two ways to get involved in the Festival – either by registering your own event or getting involved in a Festival produced event.

As an open access festival anyone can take part however Festival director Paul Smith is clear about what he is looking for.

“Our focus is on innovative and experimental work that engages, provokes and entertains. That can be anything from physical theatre to classical music, as long as it is pushing the boundaries of what people would normally expect.”

A detailed Artist Information Pack is available on the Festival website which explains everything artists need to know about how the Festival works, what changes have been made to the Festival, what venues you can apply for and funding options for your show. Artist registrations are due by 18 November 2011.

Festival Q & A – in Dunedin and online!
The Fringe Festival is holding a Festival Q&A in Dunedin and two further sessions via Skype for out of town artists. This is a chance for artists to find out first hand how the Festival works and to ask the Festival Director any questions

Find out more here.

Northern hemisphere artists: Thursday 6 October, 8.00am NZ time (GMT+12)
Southern hemisphere artists: Thursday 6 October, 1.00pm NZ time (GMT+12)
You need to register for the Skype Q&A as places are limited.

Applications are open for Fringe Funding!
The Dunedin Fringe Festival has received funding of $25,000 from Creative NZ to distribute to artists participating in the 2012 Festival. Mr Smith said the funding would help generate “a huge amount of exciting events that add depth and vitality to the 2012 Festival programme”.

The funding grants are for artists to develop new work for the Festival and to tour works to Dunedin. Artists need to apply by 22 October 2011. Eligibility and assessment criteria and the application forms are available on the Festival website – www.dunedinfringe.org.nz
