Help send NZ gamelan music on tour A group of Wellington gamelan musicians and composers are poised to take their new compositions to Indonesia in July. With just 3 days to go, they're only $430 away from their target on the Boosted website, a new crowd-funding site run by the Arts Foundation (http://www.boosted.org.nz/projects/gamelan-tour-to-indonesia). Their aim is to raise $5000 through this campaign to help cover the costs of touring Indonesia with their repertoire of new compositions by student or recent graduate composers, as well as a new work by well-known composer Gareth Farr. Gamelan refers to bronze percussion ensembles from the islands of Java and Bali. A set of Balinese gamelan instruments as well as Javanese instruments are housed at the NZ School of Music in Wellington. Both these sets are in constant use by enthusiastic students, graduates and other members of the community. The musicians touring Indonesia will perform at the Yogyakarta International Gamelan Festival in Central Java in early July, as well as at venues in Jakarta, Surakarta and Bali. You can help them make their target by going to this website: http://www.boosted.org.nz/projects/gamelan-tour-to-indonesia and making even a $5 donation. All donations are fully tax-deductible.
