Southside Arts Festival – Media Diary Note

Southside Arts Festival (formerly the Manukau Festival of Arts) is a vibrant, month-long celebration of local talent and creative enterprise in fashion, music, art, theatre and dance and more.

The festival, which is in its second year, highlights the artistic talent that resides in Auckland and aims to increase social cohesion, self-esteem and pride in the region.

The three cornerstone events of the festival are the Southside Gig, Cult Couture and the MIXER 3 Concert.

Southside Gig is a 12-hour celebration of Auckland’s urban culture where the best hip hop, graff art, and b-boy break dancing talents come together in an exciting and impressive collaboration on Saturday October 13.

A week later, on October 20, is the one-night-only fashion extravaganza Cult Couture. This is an evening that combines fashion, music, dance and theatre with dramatic effect. Cult Couture highlights the cultural flavours, innovation and originality from New Zealand’s fashion industry.

The MIXER 3 concert on October 26 reveals the best in local musical talent from reggae to R&B.

Southside Arts Festival showcases more than 40 events (mainly free) and is on from October 12 to November 11 2012.
