Each year, Corban Estate Arts Centre’s annual Summer School takes place in sunny January. This year, Summer School 2021 offers an exciting and immersive line up of hands-on workshops, delivered by accomplished art practitioners from across Aotearoa. The programme provides ample opportunities to develop and hone existing skills across a broad range of disciplines. From textile design through to comics, mobile phone storytelling, graffiti, glass-casting, fiction writing, and traditional Māori carving, there are many potential creative directions in store for participants.
In Graffiti Masters, Dr. Bobby Hung, perhaps more widely known in the community as Berst, will guide participants in understanding the global phenomenon known as graffiti. The workshop will give hands-on experience and a step by step process of graffiti from the conceptualisation of a sketch to a large-scale piece on a wall. Berst has painted graffiti for over 15 years and is involved in a range of community centred projects with youth and visual arts education in the tertiary sector. Berst also holds a PhD in Education from the University of Auckland and has been an art and design lecturer for the past nine years in the Creative Industries department at Unitec Institute of Techology.
In these hands-on and practical workshops, participants will not only be interacting with like-minded peers and renowned tutors, they will also have the opportunity to take part in a number of additional free activities which include studio tours and learning more about tutors through the tutor showcase. Whether one is returning to their craft or taking up a new art form, Summer School 2021 is the ideal place for creativity and connecting with others.
