From the creators of last year’s hit Summer Shakespeare “Passionate Acts” comes “Shakespeare's Rebels”.

Scenes from some of Shakespeare's most popular and unusual plays including King Lear, The Tempest, Corolianus, Twelfth Night, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Merchant of Venice and more.

This year Artistic Director Grae Burton says to expect more of the anthology, “Short, Sharp Shakespeare,” which drew audiences to last year’s critically acclaimed production.

“This year’s season is another great combination of comedy and pathos, physical and dramatic theatre with a few twists along the way.”

Shakeitup! is a company producing theatre with a difference, a unique twist on a classic work originally presented in one of the most beautiful outdoor locations in Auckland, the Pah Homestead, TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre.

“We perform outside, with the audience seated around the performance on the veranda and grounds, overlooking Monte Cecilia Park.

Last year, during the performance as the sun set, the moon rose high in the sky and it was one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had in theatre.” Says Burton.

The Shakeitup! Company for includes Moana McArtney (returning from last year’s production) and company newcomers Catherine Boniface Jennifer Freed, Wallace Arts Trust Artist in Residence Paul Trimmer and Wallace Arts Trustee, actor Sam Mannering.

Also joining the company onstage is actor, founder and former artistic director of The Auckland Theatre Company and Auckland Arts Festival Simon Prast. This year the season is also a part of Auckland Fringe 2015.

The performances at the Pah Homestead are scheduled to begin at 7pm.

On selected evenings (including Valentines Day) audiences are invited to book a table from 6pm on the veranda for delicious pre-show dining by Dawsons Catering.

Praise for the 2014 Season - Passionate Acts “Pah Homestead is a sublime venue for almost anything and is perfect for this... Thanks for the delicate – and kindly – reminder that life can be filled with joy when we take the time to look it.” – NEW ZEALAND THEATRE NEWS “For me it was the choice of what to show and when to stop that was most inspired, giving us a glimpse of the versatility of the Bard without being flippant and “only doing the best bits”. Adding to the magical evening were so many factors – the beautiful surroundings; the falling of dusk; the passerby kids peering over the hedge in the background stopping to watch, the automatic lights coming on at just the right time...”
