Auckland's largest art market The Original Art Sale concluded its 5th successful year with increased sales.
Over 400 artists submitted 1,600 art works on display at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre over the weekend just gone. Works consisted of a wide variety of genres from the emerging to more established artist.
Director Richard Jeffery was extremely pleased with the results "With all the doom and gloom of the recession we were going to take a cautious approach but decided to increase the marketing activities which worked".
Over a quarter of a million dollars worth of art work was sold; 30% up on the previous year but the average sale price for a painting was down by 6%. "Those artists that priced their works realistically definitely got the benefit of increased sales" said Jeffery "We don't price the works and leave that with the artists, understandably this year not very many works sold for more than $2,000 with an average price of $640 achieved".
Funds raised from the South Auckland Health Foundation Charity preview Gala evening have been donated towards auditory brainstem response testing equipment used predominantly for newborns and young children to assess hearing loss.
