I want to set inspiring goals but I haven’t got a clue what they could be.
I want to set inspiring goals but I haven’t got a clue what they could be.
There is no point in setting goals for yourself unless you really want the end result. The reason is it takes a little bit of persistence and effort to achieve a goal and you are simply not going to put in the effort or stay the distance unless there is a strong desire to achieve your goal.
Therefore set your goals from your heart not your head. You then create something you truly desire rather than something you think is a good idea. Each approach has a very different resonance. One has the power to pull you towards it. The other asks that you force yourself towards it. Obviously one way is more stressful. The other can be achieved with grace and ease.
“Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love”. - Rumi 12th century poet
For some people it is really hard to know what you really want. I know I used to be one of those people. Learning to identify what you really want is a bit like going to the gym and developing your muscles. There are certain muscles, metaphorically speaking, that assist you to identify what you want. The more you work them the easier it gets.
Start by writing down one thing you would like to achieve by the end of the year. Don’t think; just write the first thing that comes into your awareness. There is no right or wrong answer here. Just write.
When you have done that, write down another thing you would like to achieve by the end of the year. Don’t stop yourself by wondering how you will achieve it or whether it is possible. That doesn’t matter here. Just write what you would ideally like to achieve. One simple thing, don’t make it complex.
Now as it is a particularly good year for manifesting write down a third thing you would like to achieve. Keep it very simple.
My example:
1. De clutter my life. Go through every room and every cupboard in my house and throw out/recycle everything that is not in use. I have a strong desire to simplify my life and lighten my load.
2. Reduce my work projects to three priority contracts or areas of focus.
3. Loose 10 kilos.
So there you have it. Three points of focus to achieve by the end of the year. Goal setting can be that simple. And that is the key. If you find it hard, keep it simple and keep the goals small and achievable. Lots of small goals take you to bigger ones. Always start off with baby steps until it becomes easier.

Go now and work out what you need to do to begin moving towards the three things you wrote down and get your diary out and block out times to make them happen.
If you want to take a further step in learning to work effectively with goals go check out the other exercise in this section. It is about creating SMART goals. SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound. Creating SMART goals is about organising your goal so they become grounded and it is clearer as to how to set about them.
