Working in ceramics and on paper, Poppelwell refers to himself as a potter and has become known for his black and white cross hatching, rabbits and text reflecting influences, appropriations and a disregard for the traditional boundaries of craft culture. Working in ceramics and on paper, Poppelwell refers to himself as a potter and has become known for his black and white cross hatching, rabbits and text reflecting influences, appropriations and a disregard for the traditional boundaries of craft culture.Poppelwell honours the processes of creation, embracing breakages and mishaps as part of the works as they emerge from the kiln.
Currently creating work for the exhibition, Poppelwell will travel from his home in Napier with the works to be installed in Piece.
Opening on Friday 15th February with a preview from 5:30 - 7pm which Martin will attend, the exhibition will run until the 7th of March.
The Martin Poppelwell show will be the first solo exhibition to be held at Piece, and begins a series of exhibitions that will run through the year featuring artists working across the mediums of object art.
