The winner of the 2008 Best Film Award at the Show Me Shorts Film Festival is Phill Simmonds for 'Noise Control.'

Phill Simmonds and his brother Jeff won the Best Film award last year for their film 'A Very Nice Honeymoon.' 'Noise Control' is a comedic animated documentary about a kindergarten's pet rooster that is shot by a noise control officer.The winner of the 2008 Best Film Award at the Show Me Shorts Film Festival is Phill Simmonds for 'Noise Control.'

Phill Simmonds and his brother Jeff won the Best Film award last year for their film 'A Very Nice Honeymoon.' 'Noise Control' is a comedic animated documentary about a kindergarten's pet rooster that is shot by a noise control officer.The winners in all four awards categories were announced on Thursday at the gala opening.

The joint winners of the Best Student Film award are Cameron Edser and Michael Richards for 'Animal Instincts,' an animated comedy about a cow and a sheep at war.

Roseanne Liang took out the Atlab Best Technical Contribution prize for her hilarious film 'Take 3' about three Asian actresses facing racism at auditions.

The Panavision Special Jury Prize was awarded this year to Baudouin du Bois for writing the thriller 'Serial Killer.' The film is about a French family who get lost on holiday in New Zealand, when their car breaks down and they are forced to seek shelter with some scary locals.

The judges for this year's awards were film critic Helene Wong, General Manager of Hoyts Film Distribution Elizabeth Trotman, Actor Bruce Hopkins and Kiwa Media Producer Karla Rodgers.

All of the judges were impressed with the overall quality of the films. The winning films are currently screening in various sessions (along with the rest of the 41 films in this year's program) at Auckland's Academy Cinema until the 12th of November. The festival then moves to Wellington for a week followed by Christchurch, Dunedin and some smaller centres.
