Hundreds of Auckland photographers will be out on Saturday 12th June as they attempt to capture the winning shot that depicts their Auckland. With excellent prizes once more up for grabs, organizers believe this could be the biggest Auckland Photo Day ever.
The annual OLYMPUS Auckland Photo Day competition gives photographers just 24 hours to capture their city in a single photo. Groups, individuals, families, children and anyone who has access to a camera is encouraged to submit the scenes, people and places that reflect their vision of Auckland City.
If you’re looking for inspiration or want to see a valuable historical archive of Auckland, an Auckland Photo Day retrospective will be shown from the extensive archive of more than 4,000 photographs taken since 2004 – most of which have not been shown publicly before. Projected onto a building wall, the photos will light up the Tournament Parking Carpark in Fort St, Auckland Central on 11 June from 6-10pm.
Festival organiser Julia Durkin says the competition continues to grow as Aucklanders share their perspectives of their city. “Photography is the best way to shoot someone you love, somewhere you dig, capture a moment that says it all and Olympus Auckland Photo Day is a great way to show what you love….or hate about Auckland”.
This year, the First prize winner will receive an Olympus E-620 DSLR with 14-42mm and 70-300mm lenses (Twin Lens Kit) and the top 30 entries will also receive prizes, including books by PQ Blackwell, Fullers ferry trips and their photos made into their own personalised stamps by New Zealand Post.
Photographers can enter up to three images through the festival web site www.photographyfestival.org.nz where previous competition winners can also be viewed. Photos must be taken on 12th June to be eligible.
