Villa Maria Estate and Manukau City Council welcome entries for the ninth Villa Maria Cult-Couture fashion design awards.

The awards and show, presented as part of the Manukau Festival of Arts, celebrate creative excellence and the idea of fashion as art.

Judges will be looking for a clearly articulated concept and a strong interpretation of the category theme, along with originality, innovation and a high standard of design and construction.

Designers may enter any of six categories, with cash prizes from a pool of $15,000 awarded for each of these categories as well as the Manukau Designer Award and the Villa Maria Estate Premier Award.

This year’s awards show takes a step up into TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre’s Sir Woolf Fisher Arena, allowing producers to take the show to new levels of sartorially inspired spectacle.

As this is also the last time the awards and show will be presented by Manukau City Council before it transitions into the new Auckland Council in November, this ninth edition of Villa Maria Cult-Couture is cause for celebration.

Group Manager for Manukau Arts and founder of Villa Maria Cult-Couture, Leisa Siteine, says that the show is something Manukau can be proud of.

“From humble beginnings nine years ago, the show has become a spectacular celebration of talent both on and off the catwalk, thanks to the many designers, performers and crew who have shaped the event over the years.”
