The first graduating class of the WelTec Bachelor of Creative Technologies is set to exhibit an exciting series of works in Wellington City this October. Launched in 2008, the degree is a marriage between art, design and emerging technologies, combining a range of learning from visual arts and cultural design to animation, film & TV and audio engineering.
One of the first students to enroll in the new degree Lee Browne, is set to present a selection of her final year work at a WelTec School of Creative Technologies exhibition at Thistle Hall gallery later this month. Lee’s work explores the element of risk within the painting process and the aspect of chance and happenstance.
Visitors to the Thistle Hall exhibition can expect an ambitious and diverse portfolio of work. The exhibition is one of a series of WelTec student exhibitions over the months of October and November. “It’s an opportunity not to be missed,” says Lee. “The exhibition is a great example of work produced by the next wave of emerging artists. We are all committed to pushing ideas around contemporary creative practice.”
“The Bachelor of Creative Technologies is a little different to your standard arts degree,” Lee says. “The great thing about WelTec’s arts degree is its flexibility and variety; I had the opportunity to learn a range of disciplines from drawing to digital, to experimental painting and working with sound.”
“All the while, the one-to-one support and attention from tutors is awesome, anytime I have a question or need some help I can get in touch with one of my mentors. It’s that kind of support makes all the difference.”
WelTec School of Creative Technologies Exhibition launches October to November across Wellington City and the Hutt Valley.
