Hong Kong Festival – 11^th September 2012

Thousands had a taste of Hong Kong in Auckland during August 2012.

More than 2,000 people attended the various events as part of the Hong Kong Festival in 2012, hosted by the Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association.

The Hong Kong Festival began with a Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra at Town Hall, to celebrate the 15^th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Various events, including Career Hong Kong, HANTEC Cinema Hong Kong, Connect Hong Kong and Celebrate Hong Kong gave Aucklanders a taste of Hong Kong through workshops, movies, business seminar and networking opportunities.

This year the Hong Kong Festival raised $1,000 for SPCA Auckland through HANTEC Cinema Hong Kong, as a contribution to the Auckland community.

“We had an increase of 20% patronage to Cinema Hong Kong from the mainstream audience,” says Raymond Suen, Festival Director. “This highlights that the Festival has gained its status amongst Aucklanders and is becoming a regular event for them.”

“We are also delighted to have Hon. Pita Sharples, Minister of Maori Affairs, and Gordon Tietjens, Coach of New Zealand Rugby Seven as our speakers this year,” says Stella Chan, President of Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association. “It highlights the close relationship Hong Kong and New Zealand has, in business, sports or otherwise.”

“We are also delighted to have the ongoing support of our sponsors and supporters,” continues Chan. “They help us in ‘Developing young talents’ – the theme of this year’s festival.  Without the support of our young volunteers, the Festival could not have been so successful.”
