Outside In explores ideas about how we perceive images, forms and dimensions, and how our eyes and minds can both distort or limit what we see.Conway's background in interior design informs her attention to the interactions between space, volume and light. She offers a variety of work: large, reflective cubes, containing only illusions; drawings in light; the bright, textured, roly-poly objects of Tidal Snack (2007 - pictured).
Our eyes scan busily across the dark, sparkling light boxes, picking images, patterns and formations off the surface like finding constellations in the night sky. The mirrored cube plays with our expectations: we look in with the belief we will see something concrete and definitive, only to be thwarted. By contrast, the solid and tactile nature of the pieces in Tidal Snack invite an equally physical response.
