Wellingtonians will soon get the chance to glimpse into the future of New Zealand's 'arts capital'. Next month, Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) will open Tangents to the public, a series of exhibitions by Creative Technologies art and design students.
Tangents opens in six galleries across Wellington, from 7 - 12 November, and is set to showcase exceptional interior design, visual arts and digital media student talent.Expected highlights include: graduate work by Michelle Apperley and Verity Carroll (gold and bronze BeST Design award winners), compelling visual art by Chriss Doherty-McGregor, and an installation by the up and coming talent Adam Christensen.
Adam explains the attraction of the exhibitions, "Tangents is a snapshot of what's up and coming in the art and design world at the moment. It's a space where you can see how we've taken ideas from the world around us and put them forward in our own way", said Christensen.
Adam's work on display at the exhibitions, 'Ripple: Sound as Form' endeavours to communicate his experience with sound to others in a visual form. His work is a hybrid of disciplines, infusing elements of visual arts, digital media, engineering, sculpture and information technology.
He explains the reason for his hybrid style; "I like using computers to create, but I also like making things with my hands; I'm energized by art and design techniques within and beyond the computer screen."
"The emphasis on multi-disciplinary learning here at WelTec means I can take a range of papers that interest me, which is ultimately reflected in the work we produce and exhibit."
Wellington arts scene will experience a fresh wave this November with Tangents, an art and design experience. Entry is free to the public, visit www.weltec.ac.nz for further detail.
Exhibitions will be hosted by Chaffers Gallery, Thistle Hall Gallery, Toi Poneke Gallery, Roar Gallery, WelTec Wellington CBD Campus with an exhibition space in the Symes de Silva Building.
